More About Dolen Ffermio

Rooted in Partnership. Growing Together.

Dolen Ffermio is a small, volunteer-run charity based in both Wales and Uganda. For over 30 years, we have been building strong, lasting relationships between rural communities in Wales and some of the most remote and underserved communities in Uganda. Our mission is simple but powerful: to support people to build better futures through sustainable development, shared learning, and practical action.
We work hand in hand with our Ugandan partners to deliver programmes that address real needs—access to clean water, growing nutritious food, and acquiring essential vocational skills. These grassroots initiatives are designed not just to meet immediate challenges, but to foster long-term self-reliance, improved livelihoods, and resilient communities.

What We Do

Through our projects like the Kamili Project in Kamuli and the Ngora Vocational Institute, we support:
  • Sustainable farming and permaculture education
  • Clean water access for health and hygiene
  • Tree planting and agroforestry for food, fodder, and climate resilience
  • Vocational and life skills training for youth employment and entrepreneurship
  • School-based initiatives to engage the next generation in environmental stewardship
These programmes are designed, led, and implemented by local people. Our role is to stand beside them—listening, supporting, and investing in their vision for a brighter future.

Why We Exist

Poverty, food insecurity, and limited opportunities continue to affect many rural Ugandan communities. Dolen Ffermio exists to bridge gaps—not by giving handouts, but by sharing knowledge, growing together, and supporting sustainable change that lasts.
We believe that change rooted in local knowledge and ownership is the most effective and meaningful kind. By bringing together the strengths of rural Wales and Uganda, we aim to nurture communities where young people can thrive, families can flourish, and the environment is respected.
