GOAT BREEDING PROJECTS

Kamuli

All the Boer goats are now in Kamuli, where the pure Boer breeding activities will now take place. The goats have new raised floor houses, separate for males and females, and spacious fenced yards to graze and exercise in, all under the excellent care of Moses Kitimbo and his staff.

Goat Artificial Insemination (AI) service

The plan to use the male Boer goats for cross-breeding by AI in the communities to produce faster growing meat animals has started with a week-long training course run by Dr Gideon Nadiope, for 6 participants, including Moses, Daniel Kitimbo and Paul Musenero.

Ngora

The cross-bred herd, producing better goats for community programmes, is recovering from the year long drought. Meanwhile, the goat houses need to be repaired or renewed, mainly because of termite damage. A new female house is being built, having completely concrete posts, and hopefully using bamboo poles, which are more resistant to termites, for walls and roof struts. We want to promote the use of bamboo for goat housing to replace timber. We are searching for new Mubende bucks, which are very scarce.
