Update from the TREE AND BAMBOO PROJECT (Kamuli)

Covid-19 restrictions in Kamuli District have continued to create many problems for the project, especially because of school closures. The tree nursery is full of seedlings of many varieties including, fruit – Mango, Avocado, Jack fruit, Soursop, Papaya, timber – Musizi, fodder – Calliandra, and Moringa, the ‘miracle tree’ which is very nutritious for people and animals. With the re-opening of schools to senior pupils soon, we hope distribution can start again. Planting has continued on community farms and our demonstration farm, Nakyaka, where the 1000 banana plantation is developing well. 12 species of bamboo have been planted there to act as a mother garden for production and distribution. Our donors ‘Wales and Africa’ have allowed us a time extension to the end of January 2021, because of the disruptions and we have reduced our target for planting
